Fall 2010 Trend: Sequins

Looking through my closet, I feel like I’m missing something. Now, I have the blazers, the boots, the scarfs, and all things that scream “Autumn’s Here!” but my fall wardrobe is definitely missing a “dazzling” kick. I searched fashion blogs high and low to find a fall trend that would alleviate this void and I think found it.

One word: sequins. Top designers like Pucci, Marc Jacobs, Mulberry, Vera Wang, Balmain and plenty more made the runways sparkle and light up with hot sequined skirts, leggings, dresses and pumps. Amp your closet up with some shimmer and shine this fall.sequined 2

Sequins can be easy to integrate into daily casual wear. Opt for simple pieces like sequined hats, flats, or vests like in the two outfits featured above, to have that brilliant gleam even on simple days when going to class or to the mall.

When going out, turn the lights up by making your sequined tops or bottoms the center of your outfits attention. Mix and match, and really take the glitz and glam to another level.sequined 1

Fall 2010 Trends: Animal Prints

It seems that this season, fashionistas every where have decided, with stiletto-clad feet, to take a walk on the wild side. Celebrities like Rihanna, Beyonce, and Victoria Beckham have been caught wearing prints inspired by leopards, tigers, snakes, and more. Dolce & Gabanna, Mulberry, Just Cavalli and many other designers sprinkled jungle-inspired prints throughout their runway shows for Fall 2010. This fall its all about being the queen of the jungle.

Tips and Tricks to make animal print work:

To play it safe:

Stick with one animal print/motif. If done wrong, wearing too many animal prints, even if they are all the same type print too closely to the line of being tacky and overbearing.

Opt for simple pieces like your animal printed handbag, shoes, or other accessories for subtle sultry way to dive deep in this jungle inspired trend.

To make it wild:

Look for nontraditional animal prints that come in like bold reds/pinks, blues, greens and oranges.

Mix and match different prints, colors, sizes – go crazy. But be mindful that too many conflicting colors and prints, like mentioned earlier, will push you closer to tacky, rather than fashionable if not done wisely.

Here are some examples of pieces that follow this trend that you can find in various stores. To stay on a college budge, try to find an inexpensive animal piece from a thrift store or your mother’s closet, and see if you can incorporate this fierce trend into your wardrobe this fall.

The Chic Girl’s Guide to Transitioning to Fall.

The Chic Girl’s Guide to Transitioning to Fall.

As the days get shorter, colder, my inner Cali-girl weeps at the thought of having the trade in her daisy dukes for sweaters and boots. Summer will be gone soon, replaced by her slightly chilly sister Fall – but the cute blazers that Summer’s sun wouldn’t allow us to wear, Fall’s cool demeanor does. But if this doesn’t satiate you, and giving up your summer floral skirts is hard to fathom, don’t fret. This may help your summer wardrobe transition seamlessly into the Fall season.

Cropped

Now this summer, cropped tops were all the rage. Even me, a girl who’s stomach isn’t the flattest, found a way to incorporate classy cropped tops into my wardrobe.

To transition this summer trend into fall, pair it with a fall trend: cargo pants! Military styles are ever present this season, so trade those summer shorts for fall cargos to make this cropped top brand new again.

Summer Florals

Floral prints always remind us of the sun’s warm rays and summer nights, and because they are so cute, we just don’t wanna let them go yet.

Add opaque tights under your favorite floral skirt to keep those sexy legs cool in the Fall! Top it with a cute sweater, monochromatic heels, and a confident smile.

Laced Up

If you thought lace was big this summer, it will be even bigger this fall. So don’t put away that cute lace tank just yet.

Match it with a structured blazer and fitted jeans for an adorable look.

Bonus:

Knee high socks were all over RTW runways for Fall 2010. If you can’t let go of your favorite shorts or skirts yet, try to match them with tights and knee high socks to really make this season’s biggest trends our own. Warning, this style is for the daring and confident. If you believe you can own it, you can rock it. And steer away from holey socks, unless your pedicure is just that fierce.

Summer, you will be dearly missed. Autumn, we welcome you open arms!
